This is great news for Freesat customers and something we will continue to do this year and beyond.”

The programme Harley Street was broadcast in HD but was not available to the new ITV regions which were only added after a long delay to the freesat EPG on Tuesday 15/07/08 this was after much fanfare from freesat and ITV advertising the programme in HD.

Viewers were able to watch the programme by retuning to a ITV region postcode which was available from launch on the 6th May ie ITV London.

We would imagine ITV and freesat are extremely embarrassed about this latest failing of ITV HD, the sooner ITV HD gets a dedicated channel rather than an interactive press red to watch in HD the better for everyone.

The new service will be available via the red button on S4C Digital on Sky, Freeview, Freesat and Virgin TV in Wales, and outside Wales on Sky and Freesat. The main television soundtrack will continue to be in Welsh.

The service will be financed from S4C’s commercial fund, and not from the public fund which pays for Welsh language content.

All S4C’s domestic football and rugby coverage will carry English commentary via the interactive red button:

Football – Live and highlights coverage of The Principality Welsh Premier League and Welsh Cup as well as highlights of Wales’ home international matches.

Rugby Union – live games in the Magners League, Swalec Cup and live games from the Principality Premiership.

Rugby League – matches featuring Celtic Crusaders games.

Where rights allow, the new service will be available on S4C’s on-line sports broadcasts, at s4c.co.uk.

Iona Jones, S4C Chief Executive, said, “S4C is a Welsh language broadcaster with a remit to provide high quality programmes in the Welsh language. However, the new service will enhance the appeal and accessibility of S4C to the many non-Welsh speakers who watch the channel, particularly our extensive sports output.”

A tender to provide the new service will be published on S4C’s website, s4c.co.uk.

English subtitles are already available on S4C.

Not all the regional variants of BBC and ITV services were available at launch. This was due to technical constraints associated with co-existence on the satellite platform, so freesat adopted a phased service launch.

Twenty BBC and ITV regional services were available at launch, and the remaining regional services have now launched as well as ITV+1 on channel 114.

All freesat digiboxes should automatically update with the new channels, however some Humax users with the FOXSAT01HD have had to run a manually tune.

The channel list has been updated reflecting the additions.

freesat initially said they would be available by the end of June so we will have to wait and see if this new claim materialises.

NB if your default region is not available you will be presented with BBC One London and ITV1 Central West.

We will update as soon as we know when the missing regions will be added.
